Christmas Island is a dot in the Indian Ocean, located 2600 km northwest of Perth, Western Australia. Christmas Island is serviced by air from Perth, and South East Asia.

Scuba Diving & Snorkelling

There are some diving locations in the world that offer cave diving and vibrant corals, others offer wall diving with exellent visibility and several place offer whalesharks, but Christmas Island boasts all of these and more

Diving and snorkelling on Christmas Island is all about..

  • Getting up close and personal with majestic whalesharks - the genlte giants of the ocean (November - May)
  • Over 60 dive sites, dotted arround the island's coastline with some of the longest drop-offs in the world.
  • A catacomb of sea caves waiting for you explore.
  • Hundreds of tropical fish, as well as pelagics like rainbow runner, trevally, tuna and the occasional shark.
  • Never more than 24 divers on 60km of reef and a range of dives to suit all levels of experience
  • Snorkelling just a few metres from shore will provide an abundance of fish and coral to see.
  • Warm (26-29 degrees), safe abd uncrowded waters.
  • Over 200 species of vibrantly-coloured coral, attracting many small tropical species of fish.
  • The possibility of encountering the unknown from manta rays, to hammerhead sharks, even migrating humpback whales.

Christmas Island Marine Park

The marine park extends 50m seaward of the low water mark from the National Park boundary. This protects the shore terraces, tidal pools and the narrow band of coral reefs where at last count, 575 species of fish have been identified.

They hold internationally recognised qualifications for diving and the necessary licenses to operate commercial boats. Each of the operators have permits to take passengers into the Christmas Island Marine Park on scuba diving trips and are fully insured. Medical oxygen and First Aid Kits are carried on board the dive charter vessels.

Did you know ?

Christmas Island boasts some of the best scuba diving trips in Australia and has some of the longest drop-offs (Up to 5000m) in the world

The Island rises dramatically from the edge of the Java Trench, the Indian Ocean's deepest point.

This contributes to the endless kilometres of spectacular drop-off diving with most walls being only 20 metres from the shoreline.

Island Secret

Explore the wonders of Thundercliff Cave - a sea cave where divers can surface into a huge air-filled dome, decorated with spectacular cave informations - shawls, stalagmites and stalactites.

Tip : Deep in the darkness of the cave, keep a look out for tiny flashlight fish sporadically blinking the bioluminescent lights on and off.
